MEDICAL THERAPEUTIC YOGA
Maybe talking isn't enough. Maybe you are not meeting your health goals and living with persistent pain or symptoms. Do you believe health includes more than just treating your diagnosis and do you learn best through doing and being in your body? If so, this may be a great fit for you.
You are not your pain.
You are not your disease.
With commitment and openness, you can learn to be comfortable in your body again and reconnect with your true self. You've already made the most crucial step. It takes courage to bring your challenges into the light and reach out for help.
EMBODIED PERSISTENT PAIN CARE
If you have been suffering with persistent pain for some time; if you've been worked up by doctors and specialists and serious pathologies have been ruled out; if you've already tried conservative care (manual therapies, exercise prescriptions, NSAIDs or other medications/injections) and they have failed, this program may be appropriate for you.
The focus of this evidence-based 6 and 12 week program is to:
With loving self-compassion, reduce the inevitable fear and stress associated with persistent pain
Dive deeper into pain science concepts such as sensitization / habituation, pain vulnerability, maladaptive plasticity, and new perspectives on the neurobiology of the conscious lived experience of pain
Explore body awareness, mindful movement, meditation, and breath-work (pranayama)
Set achievable goals to help you re-engage in meaningful physical activity

WHAT IS A NURSE PRACTITIONER?
A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse in the extended class RN(EC) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario. Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioners (PHCNPs) play a role similar to Family Physicians, but grounded in the nursing profession’s values, knowledge, theories and practice. PHCNPs work independently, provide health services in health promotion, disease and injury prevention, and rehabilitation and support. NPs are authorized to offer psychotherapeutic approaches such as CBT, DBT, mindfulness and solution-focused therapy.
ARE YOUR SERVICES COVERED BY OHIP?
The short answer is no. Unfortunately, the system has not caught up yet to the changing face of health care. Most NPs are paid a salary, which is either funded by the province or pooled resources of a health team who can bill OHIP. NPs like myself working in independent practice roles receive no salary from the province.
I ALREADY HAVE A PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER (MD OR NP). CAN I SEE YOU TOO?
Yes, you can. In fact, many clients are referred from the MD/NP or therapist. I believe in NOT duplicating services so my role will be different. My purpose will to be to compliment your care by using my expertise in mind-body connection, chronic conditions, chronic pain and mental health/addiction.
CAN I GET SOME OF MY FEES REIMBURSED?
Some private health insurance companies will reimburse some of the costs. Pre-payment is required prior to session. There are no refunds. 24 hours notice is required for cancellation. Otherwise, full fee will be charged. A receipt will be provided for all services. You may also be eligible for a tax credit on your income tax.
